ARCATA- Genevieve Serna is proud to announce the launch of her campaign for Arcata City Council. “I’m excited to begin connecting with the people of Arcata and not just sharing my platform, but hearing their vision and hopes for our city.”


A housing and active transport advocate, Serna moved to Humboldt County in 2014 to attend Cal-Poly Humboldt where she earned a degree in Botany. She now shares her home in Arcata with her husband and their two pets. Sernas’ campaign is focused on exploring affordable housing solutions, improving road infrastructure and acting as an ambassador between the Cal-Poly and resident communities.


Serna’s’s background in public service extends back to her days as a member of Interact and restoring native oak reserves in her hometown to her current service as a sitting member of Arcata’s Transportation Safety Committee. She’s additionally been involved in volunteer efforts to bring food to Rio Dell following the December 2022 earthquake, Godwit Days and Arcata Main Street’s 2023 Oysterfest as the celebration made its return to the Arcata Plaza.


Early endorsers of Serna’s campaign include the Redwood Coalition for Climate & Environmental Responsibility (RCCER), District 4 Supervisor Natalie Arroyo, Environmental Protection Information Center’s (EPIC) Matt Simmons and the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities (CRTP) Executive Director Colin Fiske. 


“I’m launching this campaign to serve the city I love. To support safe and responsible growth while respecting and maintaining what makes this small town so special is at the heart of my campaign.”
